Bulgarian Mafia Boss charged in Tsankov Killing

Bulgarian Mafia boss Krasimir “The Big Margin” Marinov has been with the murder of Bulgarian organized crime reporter Boris “Bobbie” Tsankov. Tsankov had just written a book called ” The Secrets of the Mobsters” which linked Bulgarian mobsters with businessmen and political figures , the book was released last November.

Since the release of the book Mr Tsankov was said to have received various death threats before he was shot to death on the crowded streets in the capital city of Sofia. Just hours after the murder police arrested Krasimir Marinov while a more in depth investigation was launched. Police say they are also still looking for the Krasimir’s younger brother Nikolai “The Small Margin” Marinov is association with the murder.

The Marinov brothers along with three other family associates have been on trial in Bulgaria since 2006 for organized crime and possibly plotting of other assassinations. Bulgaria has been put under pressure of late to do more to fight organized crime in its country. Another organized crime author Georgi Stoev was also killed after writing various books on Bulgarian mafia and its activities. The EU is pushing for a bigger effort from Bulgaria to fight these organized crime figures and is going as far as pulling funding out of the country until they see results.
