The reputed boss of the Colombo Crime Family has suffered what sources say was a minor stroke. Thomas Gioeli also known as Tommy Shots who is jailed as he awaits a trail for racketeering and murder charges. Gioeli has been diagnosed as a diabetic and was reportedly not receiving the proper diet for his condition by the prison system which may have led to the stroke.

But prosecutors have offered up their own evidence as to the reason that Gioeli’s diet is not being properly maintained and its because he has a sweet tooth. Copies of Gioeli’s commissary purchases were supplied to the court listing things such as Hershey bars , macaroni , doughnut sticks , spam, and cheese non of which are proper for a diabetic. Gioeli has used his medical condition as a possible way to receive a get out of jail free card through the courts.

Gioeli suffered the stroke a day after he filed for bail due to health reasons and was denied by Judge Brian Cogan. Gioeli remains in the hospital reportedly in good condition and although the stoke was deemed minor he has reportedly suffered some facial paralysis. Attorney’s for Gioeli claim they have complained repeatedly that the prescriptions for Gioeli’s medicines are constantly unfilled and jail officials do not supply him with the proper food.

The recent stroke has led jail officials to now allow Gioeli to have a glucometer in his cell to monitor his blood-glucose levels when he returns to prison. Gioeli could be looking at facing the death penalty when he goes on trial but the Attorney Generals office has yet to decide if they will indeed seek it or not.
