Gambino gambling ring may include Brooklyn High School Coaches
A Gambino Crime Family illegal gambling ring which included illegal sports betting web sites is being linked to a retired NYPD cop. Dennis Canale is probably more well known as the highly touted coach of the Xaverian High School baseball team over the last 10 years. Canale is now under investigation for his possible link to what the Fed’s say is a multimillion dollar mob run online sports betting operation.
Canale in late december decided to suddenly retire as the Xaverian HS baseball coach and also from the job of building manager for the school for what he claimed was personal reasons. Oddly his sudden retirement came just after the prosecutors would file papers against a former freshman coach of Canale’s named Gerard Bruzzese as the ring leader of the illegal gambling operation and web site. Reports were that Bruzzese ran a web site named nysportswager.com which was owned by a Gambino Family associate named Alfredo Correa also known as “Dark Al”.
There have even been some reports that Canale and Bruzzese even took wagers from students at the school but as of now those claims are still un substantiated. Information gained from a wiretap identifies a better known as “Dennis” ask Bruzzese for the web site address so he would be able to just look over the lines without having to make a call and rundown. Bruzzese was hired by Canale and left the team after the 08-09 season. Lawyers for Bruzzese deny any reports that he was involved with any gambling ring.
A lawyer for Canale was contacted by refused to comment on the allegations of gambling. He said Canale is a extraordinary baseball coach and man who helped kids realize there dream of playing college and major league baseball. Under Canale’s term as head coach the high school won four city championships and the major leagues drafted 8 of his players. Allegations such as this show that the reach of organized crime linked operations have no boundaries and they look to make money in every avenue possible.
