Mafia Turf War in Montreal ?
Montreal may be in the grips of an all out Mafia war. Thursday afternoon there was a gangland style shooting that left two dead. Joseph Ducarme was able to flee the building and survived the attack which took place at his Old Montreal shop. Ducarme is still missing and it is yet unknown as to if he was injured also missing were the two gunmen.
Joseph Ducarme is a known player in the Montreal drug trade and is said to have links to the “Red’s” a Montreal street gang attempting to move into the drug territory. Ducarme was once a ally of Vito Rizzuto head of the Montreal based Rizzuto crime family. With Vito Rizzuto now serving a 10 year prison sentence for the killing of three Bonanno family capo’s from New York and many other powerful members of the Rizzuto family being indicted in Operation Coliseum there is a power vacuum on the streets of Montreal.
Ducarme’s ties to the street gangs and recent events point to him having a falling out with the Rizzuto clan. The Canadian police believe the Montreal Mafia was behind the attack. Some point to this as a possible response to the killing of Nick Rizzuto Jr the son of Montreal Mafia boss Vito Rizzuto which happened last December. The lucrative drug trade in Montreal seems to be the leading factor in the latest events with multiple players grabbing for a piece of the action.
The Canadian police have said they are exploring many theories as to what is happening in the Montreal underworld. A Mafia turf war is one of those possibilities which possibly involves the Rizzuto Family of Montreal and there counterparts in the Toronto Mafia. They are also considering that it may be a move by the Calabrian Mafia families against the Sicilian clan of the Rizzuto’s. Also a war between Montreal street gangs and the Montreal Mafia is even considered a possible explanation.Either way it seems like Montreal may be the battle ground for yet another bloody Mafia feud.
