Genovese mobster turns Rat ?

Seems as if a rare occurrence in the world of the New York Mafia has happened this week a Genovese Crime Family member has turned rat. There have only been 3 Genovese family members to turn on the family since Joe Valachi did it almost 50 years ago. The Genovese have long been one of the most insulated of the major Mafia families avoiding the Fed’s advances to flip its membership and have maintained there strength because of it. But it seems as if the Fed’s have finally once again gotten to a Genovese member and convinced him to change teams.

Anthony “Bingy” Arillotta who was the boss of his own Genovese family crew operating in Springfield , Massachusetts was arraigned last Wednesday on murder charges. In 2003 Arillotta on orders of then Genovese acting family boss Arthur “Little Guy” Nigro and other mafia wiseguys Nigro supervised the mafia murder of Genovese family capo Adolfo “Big Al” Bruno. Arillotta used one of his main enforcers to setup the hit Fotios “Freddy” Geas who then hired a lower level gangster to make the hit Frankie Roche. Roche turned and then fingered Geas as the one who paid him $10,000 to make the hit. Geas was charged with the murder of Bruno in 2008 and Arillotta and Nigro have also been indicted on various charges including the Bruno hit.

Arillotta pleaded innocent to the Bruno along with Nigro. But the day after his arraignment Arillotta disappeared from his cell in the federal lockup at the Metropolitan Correctional Center without so much as a peep. The FBI refuse to comment on the absence or status of Arillotta but the obvious is pretty clear that Bingy Arillotta is now on Team America and batting for the Fed’s. It seems very likely that Arillotta was moved into a secure location where the Fed’s and prosecutors could debrief him and add to their case against his fellow Genovese mobsters.

The news of Arillotta turning rat has already made its way through the halls of the other organized crime families along with the Genovese. With so few Genovese mobsters turning rat through the years it was more of a shock then the usual gangster turned rat happening. Rumors are that the Fed’s may even add aging Genovese mobster Pasquale “Scop” DeLuca as a defendant in the case , he is a co-conspirator in the Bruno case. DeLuca is already serving a five year prison stretch for his part in a conspiracy to murder Ralph Coppola who was whacked out in 1998 but body has yet to be found. With Arillotta flipping the shakeup in the Genovese family may have much more turns and twist as more information is released and the Fed’s make there moves.
